Pear and Berry Raw Vegan Protein Smoothie

This pear and berry raw vegan protein smoothie is clean, light and satisfying. This smoothie provides a great start to my day.  It has beautiful frozen fruits, greens, healthy oils, raw protein and added goodness from maca powder.

As much as I love bananas, sometimes it’s nice to mix up my smoothies by adding different fruits like pear.  I really love pears in smoothies.  The flavour is subtle, allowing you to taste the flavours of the other foods you add.  Pear also creates an interesting texture.  The finished product has more of a slushie quality, as opposed to a silky creamy effect that you will get from adding bananas.  I find that a pear smoothie in the morning is really kind to my stomach and this is further enhanced if I don’t add too many ingredients.

This pear and berry raw vegan protein smoothie is super easy to whip up in the morning.  I add some frozen pear that I have cut up ahead of time and put in individual containers in the freezer all ready to go.  I find being prepared helps immensely with my morning smoothie making during the week.  This is especially true for the days when I need to get myself to work and my children to day care.

This smoothie contains maca powder.  I have been learning about the benefits of this wonderful superfood lately.  It is known for enhancing stamina, enhancing mood, alleviating menstrual symptoms and those associated with menopause, enhancing sexual function in both men and women, and helping to improve the skin.  It is rich in vitamins B, C and E, and it also contains calcium, iron, zinc and magnesium.  These are just some of the benefits and, if you are interested, there is lots of information out there now about the benefits of maca powder.

I also add raw vegan protein powder.  Since I don’t eat dairy, I avoid any protein powders that contain whey.  I also check the labels very carefully to ensure the protein powder I’m picking doesn’t contain any sugar or artificial sweeteners.  Safe choices for me are protein powders that are made from either pea protein isolate, hemp seeds or sprouted rice.  I am loving Amazonia Raw Protein Natural at the moment.  This is a non-flavoured raw vegan protein powder that contains bio-fermented live ingredients.  You can check out their full product range here.

Pear and Berry Raw Vegan Protein Smoothie

Serves one

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of almond milk (homemade is best)
  • 1 organic frozen pear, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup of organic frozen mixed berries
  • 3 medjool dates, seeds removed
  • 1 handful of greens of choice (e.g. baby spinach, kale, parsley, basil, mint)
  • 2 tablespoons of maca powder
  • 2 tablespoons of Amazonia Raw Protein Natural (or any other dairy free, gluten free and sugar free protein powder)
  • 1 tablespoon of organic extra virgin coconut oil

Method

  1. Place all of the ingredients in your blender or Thermomix and blend until smooth.  If using a Thermomix, blend for 2 minutes on speed 8.  Pour your smoothie into your favourite large cup and enjoy straight away.
